I intend to do a classical painting but I do not know the kind of ink used for the initial drawing. This is just before applying the imprimatura.

Any permanent waterproof ink, such as india ink, or acrylic ink will do. I do watercolor washes over india ink drawings, but when working on canvas I sketch in graphite or charcoal, or sometimes just in dilute paint, as I work alla prima and with thicker paint.

If your talking about the sketch before you apply the paint, then you could do that with pencil (so if you make a mistake you can correct it).-(HP)
