What is a good printer to bring with me to college? February 14, 2010

Posted by Kuba in : Higher Education (University +) , trackback

I am going to be attending college in the fall, and I have decided that I am going to bring a printer along with me. I would prefer a multifunction printer that is also wireless. I would like it to have cheaper ink, and I don’t want to pay more than $90 for it. I have done a lot of research, but I don’t know what the best option would be. If anyone has a printer or knows of a printer that may be a good option to me, please let me know. Thanks!Submited by:ChinLover

I would get a laser printer with toner. I am currently working on my masters and have gone through several printers. You will save money with toner and not have to wait forever for 50 page lecture notes to print.

I’m in the same circumstance. :D

I’m ordering a customized HP laptop from their website and I ordered a printer along with it to take to college. You definitely need an All-in-One Printer, Copier, Scanner. Fax, I’ve never used in my life so I can picture living without it.

When I ordered the printer along with the computer, it was $45. I may be a little biased, but I like HP printers. They have a good reputation, easy to use, never had a problem with one. In any case, I’m sure you shouldn’t have to pay more than $90 for a good All-in-One printer. Printers are cheap.

I got through my first year with barely using a scanner or copier (and I have yet to ever fax something). You may not need the extra functions while in college, thus making your printer cheaper. Dorm rooms are not that big, so there’s little point to a wireless printer.

If you can, wait another month for back to school sales. I brought a color laser printer for about $125 last year due to a back to school sale.

Color is really nice to have these days, with all the electronic documents the instructors give to you, often will be in color to emphasize points, diagrams, and such. Looks weird in b&w and may hinder your ability to comprehend the material. Hence, I’d say look for a color printer. Color lasers have come down in price; the cheaper ones will be slow but who cares.. it’s unlikely you’ll be printing 1000 page documents.
