What does white inkjet printable mean on a recordable DVD? January 17, 2010

Posted by Kuba in : Other - Electronics , trackback

Can I apply my own label on top of the white printable surface or will that make the whole thing unreadable? I’m recording my 8mm onto DVD and want to use my own labels. ThanksSubmited by:Buzzman

You sure can, the media is on the bottom of the factory label facing down. Inkjet printable means you can put the disk right into your printer and print the lable directly onto the disc. This means the suface is heavy enough that the printer won’t damage the media beneath, so your label is more than safe, just not as good looking.

The newer DVD/CD Burners even have Lighscribe, where the drive itself uses a laser to put a label onto the disc while it is being burned! These are also special discs that can handle an etching on the top.

Don’t worry about the top of the disc!

There are certain printers that are designed to print directly onto Cd’s or DVDs. You simply insert the disc into the printer and viola, it prints the label. See link below for visual.
