How to share a printer across a wired/wireless home network? April 2, 2010

Posted by Kuba in : Computer Networking , trackback
An Adm-PC is connected to a DI-624, which is connected to a DSL modem, via ethernet cable. A Kid-PC, which the USB printer is attached to is wirelessly connected to the DI-624. The Adm-PC and Kid-PC have currently no connection to each other. The Adm-PC is on XP-Pro and the Kid-PC is on XP-Home. It can be done without any additional hardware/software. But how?

You’ll need to share the printer first. Check out:

From there you just need to search for the name you assigned to the shared printer. It’s mush easier if both computers on are the same workgroup.

1)make sure they both use the same workgroup name
2)verify they both can ping the 624.
3)Share the USB printer hooked to the KidPC.(Printer Properties-Sharing)
4)On the ADM-PC you would need to browse the network and choose the KidPC’s shared printer as the printer for the ADM-PC. Load drivers and should be good to go.
NOTE:You would need to make an account on the KidPC that matched your login/pass on your ADM-PC. Then you could get access to the shared printer.
