Samantha A asked:

If you leave the ink on the stamp, will it destroy the rubber ? Is embossing powder to set the ink when rubber stamping ? Do you have to use embossing powder ?

I think hairspray gets ink out of anything

I think I have used hair spray to get ink out of a lot of things. Doesn’t work on everything but you can give it a try.

I think No, no and no. Rubber stamp ink is made for rubber stamps – emboss if yer feelin fancy – it’s not required – oh…and most of all – just have fun.

.My best solution – and my first, would be rubbing alcohol. Also degrease will work, something with some acidity, also, such as probably lemon juice. And on the second and third question…no, and no.

Try stampin mist cleaner from stampin up. ( You can go to stampinup.com to find a demonstrater near you. ) It works great for me.
If you leave the ink on, it can bleed into other colors if you use the stamp for some other project, but I don’t think it damages the stamp.
As for embossing powder, you do not HAVE to use it with ink. You only want to use it on top of the ink if you want a raised effect on your design.

Try Eucalyptus Oil as it seems to remove most stains and marks.

Embossing Powder is used with special embossing ink and then you usually have to heat it to get it to “emboss”. It has a raised surface when it’s done. You don’t have to use embossing powder, it’s simply a personal choice and another fun option in stamping. If you leave ink on the stamp it will eat at the rubber and leave those nice little holes the next time you stamp…as well as some of the ink color left on. I’ve found that if you use baby wipes immediately after you’ve stamped – it will clean the stamp very nicely.

right where you get the rubber stamps and ink you can get stamp cleaner, you never have to use embossing powder, it is used to make a raised slick surface, its not to set the ink, you stamp your design, sprinkle on the embossing powder, pour off the excess and then heat the embossing powder over a hot light bulb, over an up turned iron, or with a heat gun. it melts quickly and makes a shiny raised surface, you need a class in rubber stamping. do not use hairspray on the rubber stamp thats insane, the ink doesnt eat up the rubber, but when you stamp it on another color of ink it will bleed colors together, thats why you clean your stamp, it will make the rubber stay nice longer too, rubbing alcohol will dry out the rubber stamp and make it come apart, people who are not really rubber stampers shouldnt answer your question.

Promptly.

Pigment inks can be cleaned promptly with plain water.

Dye-based inks can be cleaned with alcohol

You don’t need to use embossing powder with permanent inks on porous surfaces unless your really want to. I have holgram EP that’s never necessary, but sure is fun.

If I recall correctly, EP is normally only used with pigment-based inks and with Embossing Fluid (EF is plain old glycerin from the drug store or health aid store).

Repeating the original answer for emphasis: Promptly.
