Do Epson printers not work when ONE of the ink cartridges have run out? March 29, 2010

I bought a second hand Epson R1800 on Ebay. It came today, I plugged it in. The red cartridge needs replacing but the other inks are all full. Yet the printer won’t allow me to print in black and white.
Is this normally the case with Epson printers? Just cos ONE cartridge is empty, the others won’t work?

I think yes and with very good reason. read for details. There’s a good possibility this printer will never work properly.
