I bought a second hand Epson R1800 on Ebay. It came today, I plugged it in. The red cartridge needs replacing but the other inks are all full. Yet the printer won’t allow me to print in black and white.
Is this normally the case with Epson printers? Just cos ONE cartridge is empty, the others won’t work?

I got a netbook(Aspire one) and I can’t set up the printer. Usually I put the disk that came with the printer into the disk drive and upload it but the netbook doesn’t have a disk drive. Can anyone help me please…I need a printer for school.

Most cartridges have a chip on them and the driver software complains if your using a non-oem cartridge. Or it’s hard to find a aftermarket cartridge that fits correctly or works reliably due to Canon or Epson’s design. If Epson/Canon sold more afordable cartridges, I’d buy them but replacing ink these days is almost as expensive as the printer itself!
